The City of Creswell is exploring improvements for our Highway 99 corridor and our two, infamous Highway 99 “jog” intersections. We have prioritized this project for the following reasons:
Pedestrian and bicycle improvements - This includes improved crossings and about a mile of bike/pedestrian infrastructure.
Emergency Access - We are the I-5 back up in the event of a shut down. If a truck has even a small accident in the intersections, the N/S movement for the region is blocked.
Economic Development - Trucking companies know that they cannot navigate through Creswell easily. This makes our City less attractive for business with shipping and receiving operations.
Emission Reduction - Because we do not have as many jobs in Creswell, 65-75% of our workforce commutes to the metro. 19% of Creswellians work in Creswell and only 13% of the men. In contrast, 42% of Cottage Grove residents work in Cottage Grove and 33% of the men. We can make a lot of assumptions about those numbers, but the main point is that we have opportunities for more jobs in Creswell.
